No phone weekend
I actually had a packed weekend and was quite excited to snap pics with my phone to share it. But you know what? On Friday, Dav and I went to an art event. We were promised amazing art, awesome music, and cool performances by circus folk. After standing 2 hours to get in, I was told I couldn't bring in my camphone. First time I've been told that. So I dutifully had a friend put it in his car which was parked nearby...and with all going on, I didn't get around to getting my phone back until this afternoon!
It was so frustrating b/c I couldn't clandestinely show you the Friday event, but even more disappointing is that I couldn't take you with me on my first participation in Dav's favorite holiday celebration: Santarchy. Sean, who has the same phone as me, was there too and I snatched his phone a few times so hopefully he'll send me over those pics. Anyway, it was the most liberating fun I've had in a long time...to run around with 100+ other santas (some super sexy and naughty!), bar hopping, and waltzing through SF's pristine tourist/shopping areas. I just loved seeing bystanders' reactions.
Sunday, friends from my Tokyo high school got together since one friend was visiting from San Diego (a bunch of my classmates live in this wonderful city). Dav hasn't met many of my high school friends and I dragged his hung-over butt over with me. I know it was hard work for him, but it was important to me. I still feel there is this other part of me he doesn't quite know yet. We met in our Burning Man circle, and he knows me, my friends, and my family in the Tokyo context, but he's just getting to know my transplant friends...the ones with whom I share this bicultural background. Now that I'm back here (and with my phone), I'll introduce them to you too (you already met Kimi, who had her third baby).
Then Sunday night, we went to a Creative Commons party for their first anniversary. Much of this was new to me, but I'm fascinated and will study this organization more. It was sure cool to see all these obviously smart people involved in so many projects. Way out of my league but I enjoyed feeling the energy there.
