Tokyo in our office

Ever since I started at Six Apart, international conference calls have been a part of my job. The craziest was when the company was still small and there weren't a zillion projects, so we'd do "global" calls to cover all offices at once. This would include the U.S., Japan, and Europe. The only decent time for everyone ended up being 10pm 'til midnight for us here. I much preferred that to our poor European colleagues who had to call in at 7am. The calls have always been essential for communication. But now we have a magnificent video system so we can see each other. Sound is great, and talks are more productive. Now only if these got cheap enough so I could do this with my parents...

I thought you had iChat all hooked up with your folks? I use it to keep in touch with my sister in Florida, and it is just amazing how much closer it has brought us. Now THAT's good technology. :-)

yeah, iChat is great...but sometimes sound will go out even thought the video part works. So we do funny sign language games and show each other mundate objects around the house until sound comes back on. The video-conference is top-notch quality. It's all getting better though, when I think back when my mom first came to the U.S. Phone calls back to Japan had static and delays. So I'm not complaining!

Confcalls at 7am, yeah great I almost forgot those ones ;-))

There's nothing better in life than a conf call at 7am where you're not even sure in which language you're supposed to speak.

ah.
