Gearhead Mom

Check her out. Thanks to blogs, us mommies can share real information that is not edited by a marketing team or PR agency. We can get the real ins and outs. There are tons of mommy-blogs. It's a veritable "genre" now. But here's a shout-out to a new one that let's you know what products work. Having just returned to Whole Foods a very nice-looking, but totally leaking sippey cup, I'm glad to know what to get because I just don't have time to return stuff nowadays. I want to buy things that work...duh!

Thelonious and Tesla

Theo came to play the other day. Sooooooooooooooo cute. Videos too.

Thelonious and Tesla

Swings

Peekaboo

What else do you need than a title with "Thelonious" and "Tesla" together?

To my parents

We've been trying iSight for quite some time. And each time, Tesla gets shy or bewildered. So she doesn't "say" much. Well, here is evidence that she is a loud vocal gal. Note how I was giving her lovingly prepared Salmon. Spit out in no time. Such is a toddler. p.s. Thanks mom for the bib-with-bucket-for-food. Very useful!

Burning Man 2007

Tesla in her chariot. Eating after she took out her hair pin leaving playa-stiff hair. In front of Michelle's fab stencil of BM on the RV. Amazing truck installation (built by a group from NY!) Tesla's lovely ladybug from Lani. Daddy making our shade. Night fire. Me in dust storm. After a rainy dust storm, the Rv windows were so dirty! A nearby camp with dancing... Tesla being loved by camp members. Me walking Tesla in her trailer. Tesla running around with her blankie. She kept dragging it along the ground. Thankfully, I brought 5 blankies to try and keep her using clean ones. The temple...moving as always. Friend's camp kitchen during storm. Oil rig. See this video. Tesla at our RV door. She loved going up and down the steps. Kitten and me. Rachel (Kitten), Sassy, and Dav in the dust storm. Got BM stamped on my back. An awesome art car. Tesla napping. Chris from Afghanistan. Tesla with dirty plate out on the street. She really took a liking to the plate. Night of the burn on top of the RV with us girls while Dav was working hard as a Ranger. Dav as a Ranger. Dav in a uniform...yum! Kitchen. Kitty car! Tesla loving watermelon - fists full - at Terry's camp which was No Moop, No Drama. I like that camp!! On the playa at Terry's camp, ready for a nap. Tesla not liking her shades. Darn! Tesla socializing at Center Camp. Lovely art car that reminded me of A Midnight Summer's Dream (playa desert version). Guy making fresh waffles with syrup and whip cream at a random spot on the playa. Why not? Videos (cute ones of Ms. T) are on my Vox blog.

the playa

Deep end

Playa

Here is a random view of the playa during the day when Dav and I rode around.I couldn't help but stop and try and capture that "everyday" scene where people were wandering around doing their own thing enjoying the city & exploring the art like we were.

And dancing. There's lots of dancing at Burning Man. We lived a block from the Deep End, our favorite day dance place (which was nice since we didn't go out that much at night). This video is from one of the dust storms when I ran off to enjoy the winds and dance.

Telsa riding and playing on the playa

Sweet ride

The best purchase in preparation for BM and other festivals by far was this fantastic bike trailer. Tesla took an immediately liking to it, and would either lie back and chill, watching the scenery with a slight look of boredom, or get up to the edge and peek out as daddy cycled. She could fall asleep, and when detached from the bike, I could take her for evening strolls around our neighborhood.

The trailer was also a great hit for ice runs. The lines were long at Antartica this year so when folks went to get ice, they'd get everyone's orders and pile it all in the trailer. p.s. I'm so happy we had a fridge!

Plate

The 2nd video is Tesla fascinated with someone's plate that was left outside during the dust storm. No, I didn't feed Tesla off of that plate, and yes I let her get dirty during play time.

Swinging with daddy

Tesla on the playa...digging it

Dancing cuteness

Dancing cuteness 3

Dancing cuteness 2

Tesla likes dancing.

Her dancing is a basic up/down movement, but it's dancing. I tried 3 times here to catch snippets, and each time she either ran to me, or became interested in the playa dust. Yes, she eventually got some in her mouth...

Fire on the playa

Shooting fire

Here are videos of 2 fire installations. One is of a coordinated circle if shooting bursts of fire. Dav and I liked the shadow effect it gave.

Big rig

The other is of the oil rig. Pretty famous now for its gigantic cloud of a fire on Saturday night that I saw from the top of the RV (while Dav was Rangering that night). It was way on the other side of the playa, but with the size of the fire explosion, I worried about the safety of those watching close. Apparently, it was hot!

Windy scenes from the playa

Windy walking

These videos are from during 2 big dust storms we had this year. Personally, I love dust storms. They remind you of the power and beauty of nature. If it weren't for Burning Man, I'd probably never thought of getting to know the desert as I have. It's an amazing environment.

Second video is when Rachel and I were biking around for fun while daddy babysat. When the storm hit, instead of going home, we decided to head to our friends who were camping way out in the walk-in area.

Wind at B&M's

When we arrived, we found their whole camp out holding down their camp structure. We helped for a bit.

When the 2nd storm hit, a few of our friends were in our RV taking shelter. I asked Gaby to babysit so Dav and I could go out and enjoy the storm.  : )
